Finals Annoucement

HCHC Weight Loss Challenge Awards Ceremony to Air Live Sept. 9

The Healthy Choices, Healthy Communities (HCHC) coalition will air the awards ceremony for its first weight loss contest live on Saturday, Sept. 9 at noon. The ceremony will broadcast live on the health coalition's Facebook page. Seven contestants are in the running for a free 55-inch television.

The contest was announced this spring with those interested in participating having to first submit videos to social media explaining why they should be chosen. Eight finalists were chosen by a team of trainers from Firm Fitness at Bellefonte Pavilion. Seven of those originally selected finished the challenge, with each contestant provided free personal training this summer from the trainer who selected them for the contest. "Our trainers want to win as bad as the contestants," said OLBH Firm Fitness Manager Ryan Arnett. "Each trainer made their original selections based on what they saw in the videos, and that included both the motivations of our contestants and what each trainer thought they could do for the person they ended up choosing."

Arnett noted that each person selected was already a winner, as the free personal training was valued at more than $1,000 per person and each contestant saw transforming weight loss. The contest began May 1 and the final weigh-in is scheduled for Aug. 31. The winner will be kept secret until the Sept. 9 ceremony and will not be determined by pounds, but rather the individual who this summer lost the greatest percentage from his or her starting weight. The winner will receive a 55-inch television courtesy of Big Sandy Superstore.

"Our coalition has long looked to promote healthy weight loss through exercise and nutrition," Arnett said. "We hoped this contest would inspire others to reach and maintain a healthy weight. Our contestants started their journeys by going public on social media with their personal stories. They've spent the summer being filmed and photographed for Facebook, so it's only appropriate that the end to this chapter of their new lives is broadcast live for the friends, family and community that have watched these transformations and cheered them all on."

The noon ceremony will air live from Bellefonte Centre on the campus of Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital. Following the public broadcast, a celebration reception will take place for the contestants and those that served as their support systems during the summer.
